Behind the Pendulum

One of my big loves in the creative process is to see the evolution of a piece from the design stage, through to the prototype and then to the final piece. The Pendulum Collection is the first collection to be designed and implemented across my main two mediums – Glass and Silver.

The original inspiration for this piece were based on Art Deco patterns. There are so many homes that have been stripped of their original Deco features, so this is my nod to those lost pieces. I really love the few curved motifs in this style so the fish scale pattern was the basis of the design.

The other main feel for the piece was to have a feel of a chandelier. Having movement and having more light reflection. Therefore the rest of the form came from creating balance in multiple hanging pieces.

As the Glass version of this piece was the first design, where colour was the eye catching focal point, the Silver was more about flipping the script. Where texture became the main body focus and colour to accentuate the Chandelier quality of the design.

Each Silver piece has a different texture to catch and reflect the light differently all created with hammer techniques. Creating it in both Earrings and a long Pendant to really get lots of movement as you move.

Colour is added through semi precious stone drops each with their own energy, so you can match your colour palette or bring in more a certain energy. Explore each meaning below.

Rose Quartz: is the stone of universal love. It restores trust and harmony in relationships, encouraging unconditional love. Rose Quartz purifies and opens the heart at all levels to promote love, self-love, friendship, deep inner healing and feelings of peace.

Aquamarine: has a calming quality to help reduce stress and find stillness of mind. It is a stone of is a stone of courage.  Its calming energies reduce stress and quiet the mind. It also helps clarify your thoughts and clear and confusion.

Amazonite: Known as the ‘hope stone’. Said to awaken compassion for others, calm aggression and soothe the chakras. It enhances loving communication and is incredibly healing.

Inside the Jewellery Box

Hi Everyone! Corinne here writing directly to you in this blog post. As the owner, designer and maker here at A Silver Circle, one of the most frequent questions I get asked is, ‘You must have so much jewellery?!’ and the answer us always, ’no, not really’. As much as I love all of the pieces I make, I do not own all of them. So, today I am going to run you through what my jewellery collection looks like and how I go about selecting my jewellery for the day.

My jewellery collection is stored on a shelf surrounded by beautiful smelling body oil, cute travel ornaments which also double as earring stands and my go to hair accessories. I love having an inspiring little corner to find my favourite additions to any outfit.

My jewellery collection is made up of two types of jewellery pieces: Collection pieces and Samples/One of a Kind pieces. So they are separated into sections. Lets dive in!

COLLECTION PIECES

The below pieces are all from the current ASC collection.

RINGS

These are my constant companion. I rarely change them and don’t take them off so rings are the pieces that need to survive my lifestyle and go with everything i own.

Silver Hexagon Ring – I wear this ring on the ring finger on my right hand. It is the perfect one for this finger as it is a statement piece that is super light and easy to wear for all parts of my life. I once decided to switch it out but it made its return pretty quickly! It hasn’t left since then.

Circle Ring with Domes – This is the second one I have owned in this style. The first one was gifted to my beautiful friend Iris, as she was leaving to move back to her home town of Toronto, Canada. Easy to wear yet a statement piece, i move this one around a few fingers depending on mood.

Amazonite Ring – I have not taken off this ring since I first made it! I am actually still wearing the initial prototype for this piece and I absolutely love love love it! it is great to layer with my Twisted Ring and Hammered Ring, but can also work as a stand-alone piece. The calming energy of the stone is a great reminder to let things go, and an added bonus is that the colour compliments everything in my wardrobe!

PENDANTS

With pendants, i do swap them out, though i will usually have a staple piece for a few days that is shorter and then change it up with or without the addition of long chains.

Nava Deco Pendant – This piece was one that took me a long time to hone in on the design of. I had it floating around in my head and just couldn’t quite figure it out. Finally, it came into being and it has been a staple piece for me ever since. I adore the way it captures the light and has a nice movement to it. It is perfect framed when I wear my longer necklaces!

Islamic Stone Pendant – Simply put, I love this piece! I have a lot of shades of navy, turquoise, and purple in my wardrobe so the Turquoise stone always matches with my outfits. It also helps to soothe my ever-fidgeting hands to have something to play with as I rotate the stone around.

Ladder Pendant – This one is a bit of fun, and I wear it whenever I am feeling a little quirky! I love seeing people’s reactions when they realise what it is. It is so simple in its lines, yet still makes a statement with how much it pops against a solid colour top, such us with navy, teal, and maroon colours.

EARRINGS

Earrings are my go to piece to make an outfit. They can be the feature and these 3 are my go to pieces to make the outfit pop.

Maya Fan Earrings – This is from one of my more recent collections. Since its inception, I have been grabbing these as the ‘go with everything’ piece whenever I want an effortlessly stylish look. They are lightweight yet statement size and are great for day and night, so I don’t need to change when going to dinner from a day in the studio.

Islamic Stone Earrings – This is the only matching set I own. Personally, I have never been big on matching jewellery, but I adore this set with the Islamic Stone Pendant. I alternate between wearing them separately and together. This collection was created from my love to travel and architecture, and I am transported back to those places every time I wear them.

Geometric Earrings – I own the Hexagon shape of these, which match my ring from the same collection. I have had these for so so many years and they are still a go to favourite of mine. I love the sound they make! It is like having light, delicate wind chimes on my ears (not annoyingly so – trust me!). These are always a best seller and I am a big advocate as to why.

HAIR PIN

Small 2 Piece Hair Pin – I originally made the hair pins to tame my waist length locks and I didn’t realise how much I would love them at the time. I have this piece in both the Diamond and Teardrop shapes. This is a rarity for me to have more than one variation of an item. They are perfect for that half up, half down hairstyle when I want to get my hair out of my face.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS: I couldn’t put everything in, but I will mention a couple of other go to’s are the Teardrop Pendant with Figure (Reading Girl figure – she is me!), Blue Lotus Short Earrings, and the Textured Medium Ring (perfect in a ring stack).

SAMPLES AND ONE OF A KIND

Not many people realise what each collection piece goes through before they are put into production. I am always making samples or prototypes of my ideas once they have made it to the final design process. I will then wear each piece to test it for at least 2 weeks constantly to see if there are any practical issues.

Rose Quartz Heart Pendant – After having a particularly hard couple of weeks, I felt called to create a pendant with the Heart Chakra and healing in mind. When I got to the studio, I found this beautiful Rose Quartz (good for healing!) and the creation just flowed. This would usually take me a day or two to create and I finished it in 3 hours! It was truly meant to be.

African Blackwood Chain Earrings – I was gifted some rare pieces of African Blackwood from a friend and I knew I wanted to make something out of them, just like the above piece, it just flowed. These are a more statement piece that I love to wear with lots of colour. The chain movement is a lot of fun too.

Maya Oval Earring Sample – This just didn’t quite work for the collection, but as I do not own the collection version, this is a great go-to piece instead. The size and pattern were changed as the proportion wasn’t quite right for the collection. They are still super cute and go with everything.

Overall, it is so interesting how these pieces can become such a big part of our lives. I use my jewellery to express to the world who I am and what I love. Through colour and form, it is referring to where I have been and where I want to be.

I hope you all have enjoyed a little delve into my jewellery collection. I would love to hear your stories of how your ASC piece has become a part of your life. Share via our socials or via email asilvercircledesign@gmail.com.

Put some Spring in your step!

This year has flown by us so fast and Spring is well and truly upon us, so we are inspired by the sunshine and longer days and come up with four gorgeous looks to inspire your own outfits for all your Spring activities. So here we go: 4 looks to spice up your outfits and bring the heat this Spring/Summer.

A Picnic by the Lake

What better way to spend the Spring Season than a picnic on the weekend, with a spacious spread and a beautiful view overlooking the lake. For this look we’ve gone with a bohemian feel, with an emphasis on comfort and effortless elegance.

This outfit features two statement piece necklaces, the Navajo Diamond Pendant and the Islamic Stone Pendant, broken up by the minimalistic Curved Bar Necklace to achieve balance. The Navajo Diamond Pendant immediately draws attention with its bright, textured, silver finish and unique combination of geometric shapes. Whilst the Islamic Stone Pendant, featuring a turquoise stone, provides a vibrant pop of colour to match flowy/ patterned Spring skirts. The Curved Bar Necklace is the finishing touch, acting as a perfect complimentary piece and softening out the statement pieces. Our necklaces are perfect to layer on flowy Spring wear to elevate any simple look.

We’ve also gone with the Geometric Earrings to tie in the strong lines and symmetrical shapes that the Navajo Diamond Pendant provides. These earrings add a trace of complexity to the look with the skilful way the shapes interact and intertwine together.

In order to leave the spotlight on these beautiful pieces, we’ve kept it simple on the hands. The Plain Rings are incredibly versatile. These were paired with the Silver Hexagon Ring, Textured Medium Ring, Amazonite and Rhodonite Rings. These rings bring together the whole outfit, with the brighter colours you’ll be wearing this Spring.

Walk in the Park

For those days that you just want to go outdoors and enjoy the sun, we’ve put together a look that encapsulates a playful, whimsical aura that doesn’t get in the way of enjoying the outdoors.

For this look, we’ve layered more statement rings with simple Hammered Rings and Twisted Rings that draw the eye by reflecting the Spring sunlight beautifully. For some added interest, we’ve included the Bar Ring Single. It adds depth and shine in its textured designs and appears to floats on the hand. Additionally, we’ve included some playful statement pieces, including the Silver Triangle Ring and the Roller Ring to add both style and entertainment to your outfit.

For the centre piece, we’ve chosen the Oval Pendant with Figure. The Pendant swings gracefully at the end of a fine closed cable chain giving the impression of a figure sitting on a swing. This quaint piece adds extra quirkiness to vibrant outdoor outfits.

The Curve Bar Necklace is back at it again but this time using the shorter length. It’s a staple piece that’s perfect for off the shoulder tops, to sublimely contrast against any skin tone. It draws the eye upwards, towards the Islamic Stone Earrings, another statement piece for this look.

The Islamic Stone Earrings are perfect for Spring as they reflect the light, to highlight the embellished decorative patterns. The semi-precious stones hang beautifully at the base of the piece, allowing movement and flow.

For those especially humid days, we’ve added the Small 2 Piece Hair Pin, available in tear drop or diamond, to keep your flowing locks out of your face. This accessory is a perfect addition to any Spring hairstyle, long or short, as it adds texture and thickness to your hair.

A Day at the Office

It’s hard to concentrate when the weather outside is so lovely while you’re stuck in the office. Instead, you can concentrate on your hands typing furiously away or just being hard at work with this gold or silver accessory set up.

Gold

For this look we’ve made the 9ct Gold Roller Ring the statement piece. This fun accessory is your perfect companion when you need to be hard at work but can’t keep still, as the ring will glide back and forth with the movement of your finger. For added interest we’ve included the 9ct Gold Thin Hammered Ring and the Gold Layering Rings to create a sophisticated style that’s convenient for the office.

We’ve layered two simple reversible necklaces to this Spring office look, the Small Diamond Reversible Pendant and the Large Circle Reversible Pendant. The 18ct Yellow Gold side of these pieces are perfect against light neutral tones of office wear.

To keep it practical in the office we’ve styled this look with two of our gold studs. The Square Gold Studs and the Small Round Gold Studs keep the warm feel of the look consistent, while the domed shapes capture the natural light from your office window.

Silver

If you’re more of a lover of silver this Spring we’ve created an office look just for you!

The look shines with statement rings to create a dainty yet elegant feel but won’t get in the way of your productivity in the office. The Rhodonite Ring adds a warm pink tone to compliment the rosier work wear this Spring.

A Night Out

On nights out we’ve created a look that draws attention to your outfit but is practical and light so you can be ready for any spontaneous activities that you’ll embark on through the night.

The statement piece for this look features the Geometric Pendant. With the two different shapes hanging independently on opposite angles, their gentle movement will really catch the eye. Coupled with the Domed Patterned Earrings Long which incorporates great depth to capture and reflect the night light.

On the hands, we’ve kept it simple: Layering Plain Silver Rings, with Thin Hammered Ring Bands to add a lustrous shine and change up the thickness of the bands. Paired with the Oval Ring with Domes which floats effortlessly in an oval frame to complete the modern yet unique look.

And that completes the final look we have for you guys. Feeling inspired? We hope you are! Tag us #asilvercircle so we can see all the incredible looks you’ll be rocking this Spring. An Exotic Journey with the Islamic Collection

The Islamic collection takes you on a journey to an exotic place through intricate designs and vibrant colours. However, the collection itself has also been on a journey of experimentation and finding balance in ergonomics, shape and design. Corinne has always loved Islamic architecture, in particular the curves of the archways and the ornamental details which complement each other ceremoniously to create stunning architecture. From mixing different decorative elements, patterns and forms, the Islamic Collection has evolved many times to what it is today.

The Islamic Stone Pendant designs have matured the most. From originally featuring a top archway design to coming full circle to become the enclosed tear drop centred frame, it is today. Whilst the half frame mimicked the Islamic archways more closely, the precious stone could not be suspended as gracefully as Corinne had envisioned it. So extensions to the arch top was added to create structure around the sides. This structure led to a full Recycled Sterling Silver base which could completely encircle and support the revolving stone.

Corinne didn’t just want to draw on Islamic architecture for this collection, but also add a Native American tribal feel to her pieces. This is where the embellished patterns of crescent moons, arrows and dots shine. The design underwent many changes, as Corinne experimented with geometric shapes to create beautiful patterns. It was important to ensure that the detailed patterning, structure and stone harmoniously complimented each other to achieve balance. This mixture of cultural inspiration added an unexpected element to the collection, creating a boho vibe and gypsy style.

The Islamic Studs and the Islamic Small Pendant are the perfect pieces to add a delicate touch for a subtle and elegant look. Or layered with other pieces in this collection to draw attention and add interest to any look.

In this collection you will find 2 semi-precious stones featured. The turquoise stone was chosen to compliment the Native American Indian aesthetic and highlight the geometric shapes and lines. As well as provide protection and healing powers. Whilst the Amethyst stone emanates a softer, warm atmosphere to bring balance to the collection and provide its own unique healing qualities, especially for physical and emotional ailments.

The Islamic Stone Earrings and the Islamic Stone Pendants are the perfect statement pieces to bring a bohemian feel to any look. We love layering the Stone Earrings and the Stone Pendants with the Islamic Small Pendant to create an effortlessly elegant look.

We have loved taking this exotic journey and exploring different patterns and elements from around the world in this collection. We would love to see you embrace your inner gypsy and style these multi cultured pieces in your own way. Tag @asilvercircle on Instagram, wearing these unique jewels!

Evolution of the Resin Collection

The Resin Collection that we all know and love today came from a long process of experimentation. The collection began with a different idea of using enamel paints to create colour in domed forms. The first form and shape that the resin was tested in were large round studs. Then came the small round studs, square studs and finally the triangular studs. Enamel was initially used for adding colour to the domed forms but its use was quickly replaced with resin to add more depth and shine to the prototypes. Corinne continued to experiment with the resin by adding found, natural and man-made objects, like flock (wool refuse) and paper to add texture to the pieces. She then found and began testing using silver, copper and gold leaf with the resin which focused the collection.

The studs were first created in about 20 different colours and were subsequently tested to choose the best 9 which are available today. These colours and shapes, excepting a few, were then adapted to pendants and drop earrings to broaden the collection. These exceptions were the triangular shape and paper fill options that are only available with the studs.

The resin drop earrings are made using the same process as the studs – filling a domed shape with a clear or dyed resin set with crumpled silver, gold or copper leaf. The use of metal leaf adds a beautiful depth and shine to the pieces, which are available in large and small round, and square. There are 7 colours to choose from for the drop earrings.

Similarly, the resin pendants are perfect for adding colour to any outfit. Mix and match the pendants with each other or with other necklaces to create a bright and elegant look. The pendant is available in 7 different colours.

About a year after the creation of the pendants and drop earrings, the Resin Cufflinks were created. The Resin Cufflinks are also available in the same 7 colours as the drop earrings and pendants. Using simplicity in the form, the focus is all about the colour and shine housed within which creates depth and movement.

The latest addition to this collection is the black silver colour option which will be available in the studs, drop earrings, pendants and cufflinks. This design uses black dye in the resin and silver leaf for shine. The new colour option is sure to bring monochromatic tone and a delicate finish to any outfit.

The Resin Collection has been on quite a journey to the where it is today. We hope you liked hearing the origins of the colourful collection that’s now integral to A Silver Circle Design. Make sure to check out the new items in our online store!
